China bans US food product
by Vipin AgnihotriChina’s quality watchdog, Shanxi Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has claimed seizing adulterated protein powder imported from a US company Jarrow Formulas Inc.
The Bureau found that protein powder was exceeding Chinese food safety standards in terms of Selenium percentage. Theoretically speaking, Selenium is quite an integral part of life and it can turn out to be poisonous when taken beyond limit. All the powder from Jarrow Formulas has been returned.
Experts are seeing this as a revenge move from China, as not so long ago US suspended the import of Chinese goods. It is worthwhile pointing that the US Food and Drug Administration stopped imports of three kinds of farm-raised fish, as well as shrimp and eel, from Chinese suppliers till the companies prove scientifically that there products do not have any dangerous residue.
The Chinese government was not that happy with the FDA move at that time and was quick to point that they have also detected lots of substandard food products from the US.
And now China has suspended the import of meat products from seven US companies, including Tyson Foods, Sanderson Farms, Intervision Foods, AJC International, Cargill Meat Solutions, Van Luin Foods and Triumph Foods. Interestingly, Tyson Foods is one of the world’s biggest meat processor.
