by Jo BlackAccording to Mr Dinesh Rai, Secretary, Ministry of MSME, the Rs 150 billion ($3.9 billion) fund, announced by the Indian Finance Minister, in the Union Budget for skill development, has opened a plethora of opportunities, for SMEs. This, he mentioned can provide for training & developing of manpower for the tourism & hospitality industry (from the SME sector), in view of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in 2010, in New Delhi and the Olympics, 2012, in London.
Speaking at the conference on business opportunities, organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the SMEs, Mr Rai suggested the sharing of resources & best practices, between the SMEs in both the nations, which have a major stake, as far as their interest in the trade & commerce, arising as a result of the two global sporting events, was concerned.
Mr Sanjay Kothari, Additional Director General, Ministry of Tourism, while addressing the conference mentioned that the Government was gearing up to meet the hospitality arrangement (accommodation etc.), arising as a result of the tourist influx expected during the Commonwealth Games, in 2010, in New Delhi. He added that there was a gap (shortfall) of approximately 30,000 rooms and the Government was also considering other bed & breakfast arrangements, besides facilitating the establishment of new hotels in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The mission is part of the “International Gateway for Suppliers” project, which helps the London based SMEs to profit from the business opportunities, arising through the 2012 Games in London and maximize international trade opportunities of the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, in 2010.
