Industry representatives welcome hike in subsidy for SSP Fertiliser
by Jo BlackThe delegation of the producers of Single Super Phosphate (SSP) met the Indian Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers and Steel Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan in New Delhi and expressed gratitude for his efforts to revive the SSP industry.
The Department of Fertilisers had recently proposed and obtained the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for changing the subsidy from Rs. 1125 ($28.8) per MT to Rs. 5630 ($144.3) per MT in case of SSP manufactured from imported Rock Phosphate and Rs. 3658 ($93.7) per MT in case of SSP manufactured from indigenous Rock Phosphate. This will ensure the revival of the industry.
The Minister urged the delegation members to maximize the output of SSP within a year so that both industry as well as farmers are benefited by the concessions given to the industry. He said that relief will reach the farmers only when production is increased. The delegate members assured the Minister to fulfill the demands with the support of the Ministry.
The SSP industry of 120 manufacturing units was experiencing large scale sickness on account of rising cost of production with retail price being fixed by the States. Only 74 producers are giving an output of about 2 million tonnes per year against the production capacity of 6 million tonnes of the industry.
