Consumer Information Security Awareness Week
by Jo BlackIndia’s economic success is the long heralded impact of information technology.
For many years, the tangible benefits of the massive investment in technology proved elusive, but it appears that these investments are finally beginning to pay off in increased efficiency and effectiveness, particularly in service industries where increased productivity has been especially difficult to achieve.
With the realization that there is more to security than technology and the vulnerabilities in the information system that have been exposed in recent times, the focus of the industry and the government has moved onto the ‘people & processes’ aspect of the problem, more than on technology.
The CII along with Department of Information and Technology and Computer Emergency Response Team - India (CERT-In) have established the Information Security Advisory Forum.
This forum is proposed to be the single unified line of communication between government, industry and law enforcement agencies.
The Launch Seminar in Delhi was addressed by Mr. George Paul, Senior Executive Vice President, N M Parti,
Leading Academician and Vice Chairperson - Quality Circle Forum of India, Gulshan Rai, Senior Director, Cert-In, Ankit Fadia
Internet Security Expert and Ethical Hacker, Deepak Maheshwari
Director Corporate Affairs, Microsoft India, Shekhar Kirani
Vice President, VeriSign India.
Beginning May 1, Consumer Information Security Awareness Week will help spotlight ways to fight phishing and spam, particularly among the key targets of e-criminals: children, parents, teachers, financial institutions and government agencies.
The week-long effort will kick off a longer term drive to build awareness of the increasingly sophisticated threats that face more than 1 billion Internet users worldwide and millions of Internet users in India said Dr. Gulshan Rai, Senior Director with Cert-In
The focus for this year’s awareness building is to target youth and consumers, in an effort to curb Phishing and Spam incidents.
Some of the leading schools in Delhi like Salwan Public School, Modern School Barakhamba, Kothari International School have agreed to join the initiative.
To have the Industry perspective we have the participation from Microsoft, VeriSign, Google, Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), HDFC Bank, Sify and Steria said Vikram Tiwathia, Chief Information Officer, CII.
