by Jo BlackThe 2nd Global Innovation Summit, 2008 was inaugurated by Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Minister of State (Industry), Government of India and Mr. Mauri Pekerannin, Minister of Economic Affairs, Finland in Oulu, Finland on May 27, 2008.
Confederation of Indian Industry and Finpro also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate and collaborate in the area of innovation taking forward the agreement signed by the two Governments earlier this year.
Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Minister of State (Industry), Government of India, Mr. Mauri Pekerannin, Minister of Economic Affairs, Finland, Mr. V.Govindarajan, Member Secretary, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, Mr. Pradeep Singh, Ambassador of India to Finland and Mr. Asko Numminen, Ambassador of Finland to India accorded the signing of the MoU.
On the occasion of the singing of the MoU, Minister Ashwani Kumar said, CII and Finpro’s initiative to collaborate in sharing their innovation experience is of importance as Innovation and technological advancement are keys to competitiveness of national economies and their advancements in an era of globalization.
Stressing the relevance of the Global Innovation Summit he said the importance of this event is that it has once again had the effect of bringing into sharp focus the range of arguments that have been advanced across the global spectrum of competitiveness of economies.
Earlier in the day, during his discussions with Mr. Mauri Pekkarinen, Minister of Economic Affairs, Government of Finland he emphasized the need to involve the corporate sector in bilateral innovation efforts.
Mr. Mauri Pekkarinen, while speaking on the occasion said, earlier during the day it was agreed to set up a team for the purpose of agreeing on the sectors for cooperation.
Over the next three months areas of common interest will be assessed with a view to developing the roadmap to carry forward bilateral projects for developing technologies that will add to the competitiveness of industries.
The Minister also emphasized the importance of the proposed innovation centre to be set up in India.
Referring to Minister Sibal’s visit to Finland in March and the Science &Technology agreement signed between the two countries, he said he was keen to see cooperation initiated within this framework.
He identified Finland’s capabilities in Clean technology, environmental technology and paper industry apart from ICT
