ASSOCHAM opposes anti concentration clause
by Jo BlackIndia’s apex business body, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has urged the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to remove an anti concentration clause from any revision of the Non Agricultural Market Access (NAMA) text.
Assocham has written to the WTO and Indian commerce ministry saying that the anti concentration clause is being forced to be inserted in revised NAMA text by developed country members of WTO for regional and sectoral economic gains.
The Indian business body is of the view that removal of the anti concentration clause will ensure that international trade does not get concentrated in one particular region.
Assocham wants the Indian federal government to take serious steps to combine all the developing countries that are member of WTO to oppose insertion of such clauses.
The Chamber has further pointed out that linkage of the formula coefficients for cutting tariffs with the NAMA flexibilities is also a cause of concern.
