India and Bhutan explore bilateral trade
by Jenny HodgeIndian Commerce & Industry Minister, Mr. Kamal Nath says that India is the largest trading partner of Bhutan.
Nath expressed these views during a meeting with Mr. Lynbo Khandu Wangchuk, Economic Affairs Minister of Bhutan, in New Delhi.
During the meeting, both the leaders observed that there is huge potential for increasing the bilateral trade between the two countries.
Nath said that although Bhutan’s economy is inextricably linked with India, efforts towards diversification of markets and products are actively pursued.
“India and Bhutan have traditionally enjoyed a warm, cordial and mutually beneficial relationship. These relations are further strengthened by regular exchange of high-level visits,” Nath added.
India’s main exports to Bhutan are: machinery & mechanical appliances, mineral products, cereals, transport equipment, chemical products, etc.
The main imports from Bhutan are: electricity, gypsum, ferro-silicon, Portland cement, etc.
